Model 8000 and Model 8100 Terrain Awareness and Warning Systems (TAWS)

Delivering up to four-times the resolution of other systems, the L3 LandMark™ Class B TAWS is simply the most accurate terrain awareness and warning system available to business, commercial and military aircraft and helicopters. In addition to the greater terrain and known obstacle situational awareness provided by sharper graphics, the LandMark systems offer added benefits including look-ahead capabilities, longer warning times, and landing configuration operability.

LandMark Model 8000

The LandMark Model 8000 is one of the most cost-effective ways to add Class B TAWS capabilities to your current EFIS, MFD or color radar indicator. The Model 8000 uses compatible ADC and GPS inputs to provide accurate terrain and known obstacle locations.

LandMark Model 8100

The Model 8100 adds the positioning accuracy of a built-in Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS) – GPS and an extended 320 nm range to all of the capabilities and system integration ease of the Model 8000.

The LandMark Class B TAWS family incorporates five types of alerting modes:

Forward looking terrain avoidance

Includes warnings for Reduced Required Terrain Clearance and Imminent Terrain Impact.

Premature descent alert

Occurs when the aircraft is significantly below the normal final approach path of the destination runway.

Excessive descent rate

Alert condition occurs when the aircraft is descending too fast for the current height above terrain.

Descending to 500 feet

Call outs occur when approaching 500 feet of the terrain during en route or on approach.

Negative climb rate

Alert occurs after takeoff or missed approach after the aircraft reaches 50 feet above the runway, but before reaching 700 AGL.
